If I could pass a law:
Increase the budget for monitoring our natural resources, for the Department of Interior, and for land acquisition. Year after year, the government increases the budget for other private and public sectors overlooking the Department of Interior (DOI) which in my opinion is one of the most important sectors of our nation’s government. With DOI being the leader in the restoration of this land, including invasive and non-invasive species, fisheries, and threatened and endangered species, you would think that the pride and integrity of this “great nation” would offer more funding for the programs that DOI manages. Let’s not forget that DOI is a key player in natural disaster relief internationally such as in Japan and Haiti. It is the “Department of America” as President Obama put it.

The person who inspires me most is…:
Definitely my mother. Her tenacity and her work ethic is out of this world. And, she has the purest heart I've ever known.
Most memorable outdoor moment:
As a child when I was in elementary school, I remember being a tomboy, always hanging with the boys, scraping my knees, climbing trees, hopping fences, and just getting down and dirty. My mother used to always beg me to be “more feminine and act like a girl.” One day, she gave me the “don’t play to rough speech” before I headed outside to play afterschool with the boys in the neighborhood. We had this brilliant idea to take the Radio Flyer wagon that I had and tie some jump ropes to it and go wandering through the woods, just because we were kids and we figured we could find something worthwhile in the trees behind our houses. By the time the sun had begun to set we had already picked up a few knick knacks that we found tossed in the woods - guess we were really cleaning up. My best friend suggested that we head back before it got to dark. I ignored him, and within 15 minutes we found a tunnel that went under highway 495 in Maryland. We walked it for about 10 minutes. When we got to the other side, it was nothing but a flowing stream and the prettiest shade of green grass that I had ever seen. It was the first time that I saw “untouched” land in the DC Metropolitan area. I've been addicted every since to the exploration of “untouched land."
